Pacific Rim photographs and memories

Top: Chip Cheatham at an antiques warehouse in China. Bottom Left: Elephant convoy in Thailand. Bottom Right: A Balinese interpreter in Lombok.

We dug up some old photographs, somewhat accidentally, and enjoyed them so much that we decided to share them here with you.  Chip Cheatham, president of PierceMartin, has photographed a great deal of his trips overseas, and since many of our clients and guests are always curious about the sourcing of our beautiful one-of-a-kinds and antiques, we invite you to enjoy this blast from the past.

Chip Cheatham (circa 1990) at the base of a very large Banyan tree. Note that Chip is standing on a section that is already shoulder height above the ground.

Chip discovers, salvages, and hand-selects all of our antique and one-of-a-kind items from across the Pacific Rim, including Indonesia, Thailand, China, and the Philippines.

At the home of a local man who collects artifacts and architectural objects.

That bird-like carving in the showroom is called a chofa, and was once mounted high atop a Thai temple to ward away evil spirits (or birds, whichever you choose to believe); the large, chunky coffee table was once used by Indonesian weavers who wove large beautiful textiles and collected the materials on the tables to keep them off of the ground.

Local man in foreground, with a chicken basket in the background.

Our antique and one-of-a-kind pieces have rich and unique stories and histories behind them, which is part of what makes them so special. Hopefully you've enjoyed this brief glimpse into some of our history, and the history of the treasures that we bring into your homes.

Redland, by Spitzmiller & Norris, Inc., honored with Shutze Award

2010 Shutze Award Winner, Redland, by Spitzmiller & Norris, Inc.

The April issue of the always-fabulous Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles features the 2010 Philip Trammell Shutze Award Honorees. The competition, held by the Southeast Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America, recognizes individuals who are contributing to the creation of 21st-century Classical and Traditional architecture and related fields. This year's winner, in the Preservation/Restoration category, was Spitzmiller & Norris, Inc.,  for the Redland property.  "Redland "was originally constructed in 1852 and is the personal residence of Frederick Spitzmiller.   There is a wonderful gallery on the Spitzmiller & Norris Facebook page. The highly interesting gallery includes "before and after" photographs as well as "in transit" photographs of the house during the move to its current location.  The AH&L article shows two Chelsea club chairs that Fredrick used at Redland. See that, and more PierceMartin in print, on the PierceMartin Press page. While you're here, enjoy a few more photos that our very own Chip Cheatham shot at Redland last year:

Junior League of Atlanta

The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) opened its doors on Thursday to the Junior League of Atlanta for a night of shopping, socializing, & silent auction fund raising.  PierceMartin joined in on the fun by donating a rattan Ovalback Chippendale chair to the silent auction, while John Garrity, a PierceMartin featured-artist, donated a large painting from his Organic series.  PierceMartin also held a free raffle for all attendees, of an Indo-Bamboo drink table (check back later today for the winning number of our "Second Chance" drawing - of a second winner - to be announced here on the blog).  The event had a great turnout, and guests were treated to hors d'oeuvres and cocktails in the atrium and hallways of ADAC, while PierceMartin served red wine in our showroom.  Thank you to the Junior League of Atlanta, ADAC, and the participating showrooms for a fun night for a worthy cause!

New Inventory of Oyster Shell lamp by Stephen Woods

Stephen Woods Oyster Shell lamps through PierceMartin

We've recently received these two Oyster Shell lamps by Stephen Woods, and already sold the one pictured on the right.  We now have just the one on the left remaining, and my guess is that it won't last long.  Stephen constructed these without shades this time to allow you to customize them to your liking, and we suggest sourcing a shade 12" x 19" x 11.75" to work well with the included 10" harp.  If you missed out the first time around, don't miss out this time. This opportunity to own this beautiful and functional piece of art is available on a first-come, first-served basis by calling 1-800-334-8701.

Please note that we will not ship these via Fed Ex or other common carrier.  Buyer must pick up or arrange for pick up through a blanket-wrap or white-glove delivery service.  Upon request, we are able to suggest delivery services for you to contact.  These items are located at:

PierceMartin Operations Center
99 Armour Dr. NE

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles March issue

We received our copy of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles today, and it's a beaut!  Great job as always Clint on the issue, the show house, and the print publication debut (we think) of Lady Bird!  The show house was beautifully photographed by Erica George Dines, and we of course love the shot of the media room, with interior design by PierceMartin president Chip Cheatham, using PierceMartin furnishings and artwork by Atlanta artist Tim Hunter.  Photography by Erica George Dines

We also loved the feature on Atlanta interior designer & tastemaker Amy Morris, who - we couldn't help but notice - is sitting at her PierceMartin Iron Ring coffee table on page 13.

Amy Morris feature

Pick up your own copy today to see more of Amy's feature, the show house, and more exceptional content typical of AH&L.
