Junior League of Atlanta

The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) opened its doors on Thursday to the Junior League of Atlanta for a night of shopping, socializing, & silent auction fund raising.  PierceMartin joined in on the fun by donating a rattan Ovalback Chippendale chair to the silent auction, while John Garrity, a PierceMartin featured-artist, donated a large painting from his Organic series.  PierceMartin also held a free raffle for all attendees, of an Indo-Bamboo drink table (check back later today for the winning number of our "Second Chance" drawing - of a second winner - to be announced here on the blog).  The event had a great turnout, and guests were treated to hors d'oeuvres and cocktails in the atrium and hallways of ADAC, while PierceMartin served red wine in our showroom.  Thank you to the Junior League of Atlanta, ADAC, and the participating showrooms for a fun night for a worthy cause!

Caring for Your Rattan Furniture:

PierceMartin rattan sofa

Shown here is our Chelsea, naturally distressed, rattan sofa. Rattan is easy to maintain when following these steps.

Materials needed:

  1. A quality furniture polish containing lemon oil, such as Endust, Pledge, or pure lemon oil polish
  2. Several soft, clean, and dry cotton rags to apply lemon oil polish
  3. Several soft, clean, and dry cotton rags to wipe away excess lemon oil polish

Instructions:

  1. For best results, read these instructions completely before beginning.
  2. Apply a small amount of lemon oil polish to a cotton rag, and wipe gently over the durable surfaces of the sofa, including the rattan trim and legs, woven Hong Kong Cane panels, and leather bindings.  Use care around upholstered areas as the polish will stain the textile.  Always apply the polish to the rag first; never spray or pour polish directly onto the sofa.
  3. Using a new, clean, dry, cotton rag, follow back over the area that you have just polished and wipe away any excess polish.
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3, working in small areas, and move progressively over the durable surfaces until the process is complete.
  5. This process may be completed quarterly, or with greater frequency depending on the level of use and varying conditions.
  6. If the finish becomes damaged from wear, touch-up markers are available through PierceMartin.  The use of silicon-based polishes may inhibit the effectiveness of touch-up markers, should they be needed.

As with other fine furniture, avoiding extreme wet or dry conditions will also prolong the life of your rattan furniture.   And that's it!

Over time, all finishes will eventually wear and develop a patina.  Some users will have us reupholster or refinish their pieces every ten years or so, depending on use.  Others choose to continue maintaining their original finish and enjoy developing their own unique patina over decades.  Whether you prefer occasional updating or building a patina, PierceMartin rattan is a beautiful, strong, and sustainable material that always has a place in a sophisticated home.

Featured Item: Moyo chair

PierceMartin Moyo chair

PierceMartin Moyo chair

Our Moyo chair, item 662, redefines the concept of a wicker or rattan arm chair.  The sleek, black-lacquered rattan pole arms create an airy openness between the woven rattan peel base and back.  The chairs are shown here in split COM with fitted backs, and we also love them with slipcover backs or throw pillow backs.  As always, custom options are only limited by your imagination.

Custom Finishing: Chelsea nightstands

Chelsea nightstands with custom finish

Chelsea nightstands with custom finish

These Chelsea nightstands are usually only seen in their standard finish, with Chelsea distressed rattan and natural (blonde) Pandan weave. We loved applying this distressed custom finish for an Altanta designer & friend. The bone accents really pop against the dark finish.
